Nice read. Would you say your therapy is working?

Cheers! Ummm well it depends what you mean by 'working' I guess? Haha. I find it super helpful because I have specific issues I want to discuss with a professional. Tbh I think everyone should give therapy a go (if it's affordable, of course). Btw it doesn't take a genius to intuit my reasons for seeking out therapy – it's kinda obvious in some of the stuff I've written on here lol – but I've been in therapy pretty much constantly for the last 4 years and it's really changed my life. But that's just my experience. Thanks for reading! x

I'm glad you've had such good results. I've never tried it myself. I'm scarred by an experience a couple of years ago with one of my closest friends, who did a ton of therapy, read lots of self-help books and became more and more inward-looking and self-obsessed, then cut me out of his life for not being "affirming, empathetic and positive" enough.

I'm sorry to hear that. I realise I just said 'everyone should try therapy' but I'm also conscious that obsessive self-reflection is unhealthy – even somewhat dangerous. And that there are a lot of bad therapists out there. I guess I'm just lucky I've never had a bad experience with one. They've either been uninspiring or truly excellent. I find the whole notion of 'self help' books a bit grotesque actually because they're inevitably general rather than specific to the individual. It strikes me as total bullshit that a book intended for the general public – and which gives specific bits of advice – could possibly be helpful to anyone. Really sorry you had that experience, though x
